Smartphone Technology......I guess this is proceeding fastest at present time. Every day we see different, new & unique innovations in the Smartphone world. Brands keep launching multiple types of devices on a regular basis which sometimes also causes confusion. Today our mobile has become our best friend or you can say the thing without which we don't want to start our day.
In this modern era of technology, our phone helps us most of the time either it is in browsing, searching, or even working. From reading e-mails in the morning to going office/college through booking a cab or ordering food from restaurants, clicking memories, talking to friends & family.....we use smartphones every now & then. Nowadays during pandemic students are also taking their classes online resulting in the immense requirements for smartphones.
But the question in most of the people's mind is that which Smartphone is Perfect for them as at present time there are a lot of choices from multiple brands offering unique technologies. Everything in mobile has become advanced & smart. So today we will try to help you to choose the smartphone that suits you most. Let's begin :
Following are the points you have to check before buying a smartphone :
1. PHYSICS OF PHONE
Today brands offer you different designs on phones. Some are with plastic (polycarbonate) built whereas some with metal & glass build. Most of the time Glass built phones look premium and gorgeous. But if fell from a height, Glass may break(so prefer gorilla glass 3 or above protection). Metal phones are also good but increase weight whereas plastic helps to reduce weight & price but easily gets scratches.
Nowadays companies are trying to remove the bezels in smartphones that's why new technologies like notches, pop-up cameras, punch-holes & now under-display camera technology are trending. Some brands also offered flip & sliding cameras in past. Generally, people doubt the durability of pop-up & flip-up cameras because of their physical movements. Yes, they are not so fragile like ordinary phones, but companies do a lot of testing to check durability...so you shouldn't worry more. Notch display is also fine but can't provide that full view display like pop-up cameras do. It just depends on your taste, not a deal-breaker.
But what can be a deal-breaker is having a micro USB port in the 2020 smartphone, always prefer type-c. Having a headphone jack in 2020 will be admirable. A Dedicated SIM tray with a triple slot (2 sims + 1micro sd card) is best, a hybrid can also work if the phone has enough storage. Fingerprint scanner physical at back, in-display on the front or side-mounted....all works fine (but should be fast & responsive).
* Folding smartphones are also available in the market nowadays but they are quite expensive.
2. Operating System
This is a controversial topic actually because some people prefer clean & pure stock android whereas some people want feature-rich customized skins (like Oxygen OS, MIUI, One UI, etc).
I suggest if you are a person who doesn't wanna see ads & bloatware on your mobile or you want a phone for your parents or grandparents you should go with stock android(easy to use) but if you want more customizations & extra features you can try custom UI.
3. Processor
I believe this is the main component of a smartphone to check. A better processor will be fast & lag-free whereas an old processor can cause lags & slow processing.
A processor can be based on 5/7/8/10/14 nm.....lesser is the nanometer more efficient is the processor.
Various companies design processors like Snapdragon by Qualcomm, Dimensity by Mediatek, Exynos by Samsung, Kirin by Huawei & many others.
Since Snapdragon is widely used in many smartphones, I'll give an example of that, remember under 10k phones should have at least SD 675, similarly under 20k SD 7 series processor & SD 8 series processor will be a good choice in 30k & above-priced devices.
* You can check & compare ANTUTU Benchmarks scores (app available) for knowing the power of processors.
4. Display
There are mainly two or three types of display panels in the market :
(i) TFT (very old technology, deal breaker)
(ii) IPS LCD (Fine & budget friendly)
(iii) Amoled/OLED (vibrant colors, natural blacks, better viewing angles, best but expensive)
Display size depends on your taste completely, if you have high media consumption go 6.4 inches display or above else if you like compact & lightweight smartphones, try 5.8 - 6.2 inch displays.
5. Camera
It is believed by many that more megapixels mean a better camera but this is not the reality actually. A better image quality needs a good image sensor, big pixel size, and most important AI-based image processing software.
You can judge the camera only by checking image samples (remember one thing never check image samples at the company's website instead you can check photos at the e-commerce site's product page).
Camera with OIS(optical image stabilization) & EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization) records stable videos. If the phone supports 4K video recording, it is admirable though some phones can also record 8k videos but not practically useful most of the time. Mostly mobile Camera supports 4K at 60fps/30fps or 1080p at 120fps. More fps means more frames per second(used in slow-motion videos).
Phone having primary camera + ultrawide camera + telephoto(zoom) camera at back is great. But many phones with single-camera are also dominating the market with the help of their amazing software optimizations.
Macro camera & depth camera setup is also available in some smartphones but is not deal-breakers.
In the Front camera, the primary camera + ultrawide lens is best.
6. RAM & ROM
A 4/6 GB of RAM is good enough for normal usage & gamers can go for 8/12 GB RAM options.
LPDDR 5X RAM is best but LPDDR4X will also work fine.
For ROM i.e. storage 128 GB is ideal but you can go with 64GB if the budget is tight & 256 if you can spend more money.
Storage type of UFS 2.1, 3.0 & 3.1 are good.
7. Sound
Stereo speakers(dual speakers) should be preferred but mostly available in premium phones (worth 25k or more).
The earpiece should be loud enough for the outdoors(check reviews on e-commerce sites).
8. Battery & Charging
A 4000 mAh battery combined with an efficient processor should last a day for a normal user whereas high consumption users should go with a 4500/5000/6000 mAh battery.
Li-Po batteries are better than Li-ion batteries.
There are various fast charging technologies nowadays like Qualcomm Quick charge, flash charge, warp charge, dash charge, etc. are available in the market.
A 18/15 W fast charger is good enough,although 30W / 33W / 55W / 65W chargers are also available.
* Some premium flagship phones also support 100/120 W wired charging and wireless & reverse wireless charging.
These were a few topics that you should consider while buying a smartphone. Except these every phone has its own USP(Unique Selling Point) like Oxygen OS & alert slider in OnePlus phones, fab image processing in Google Pixel phone, flip camera in Asus 6z, Gimbal mechanism in Vivo X50 pro, 100X zoom in Samsung flagship, IR blaster in Xiaomi phones, air triggers in Asus Rog phone 3, stock android in Motorola/Nokia phones, regular updates in IPhones, etc.
So I hope, now you can buy a perfect smartphone for you according to your need & preferences.
